Widespread rain to end the week in Metro Detroit: What to expect

Nice Thursday before rain arrives

4Warn Weather – Our Thursday begins clear and seasonally cool with temperatures starting at either side of 50 degrees.

This will be a great day to get outside. Highs will be in the pleasant 70s. Wind conditions will be less breezy.

The day will remain dry with some moisture and cloud cover moving in this evening -- though we aren’t expecting any rain today.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:34 p.m.

Rain moves in ahead of Friday

Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected Thursday night, and will continue into Friday.

By 5 a.m. Friday, we’re expecting heavy, widespread rain across Metro Detroit. Rain will still be widespread by 8 a.m. Anticipate a wet morning drive.

Rounds of rain will last through Friday afternoon and evening. There is no threat for severe weather at this time.

Maybe some rain this weekend

There is a small chance for a few isolated showers this weekend, but not overly impressive.

We do have a chance for some remnant showers early Saturday morning (before sunrise). We’ll pick up some moisture midday Saturday, and then dry out through the afternoon.

There is a chance for an isolated shower or two on Sunday.

Apart from the rain chances, expect a mix of sun and clouds this weekend. Highs will stay in the mid-70s.

Those above average temps will continue through at least the next week. A large low pressure system will bring storm chances our way next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, severe thunderstorms and the threat for flash flooding continues over portions of the Plains and Mississippi Valley on Thursday. Cool and snowy conditions are on tap in parts of the Northwest. Above average and potentially record-breaking temperatures are possible into the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic on Thursday.
